A trip in Tuscany

Today I would like to describe a nice trip that you can do in Tuscany, visiting a lot of wonderful places and beautiful landscapes.

I would like to start from Siena, a wonderful city in the center of Tuscany. It is very famous for the Palio, a typical horse ride in the center on the city. The Palio is a very famous event in Siena and it takes place in Piazza del Campo. It takes place every year on July 2nd and august 16th.

Palio is a competition between different district of the city called “contrade”.

So be aware that if you go there in this period of the year you will find, for sure, a lot of people and a lot of traffic.

You can enter in the center of the city only by walk. What I suggest you is to find an Hotel close by the center, or it would be a good idea to find an agriturismo. Tuscany is full of agriturismi and I really prefer to stay in this kind of accommodation instead of hotels.

And also if you find a place around Siena you are not far from the other place that I’m suggesting you in this post.

Leaving Siena heading north you will find San Gimignano. This is a wonderful town very famous for its medieval architecture. The historic center of San Gimignano is a UNESCO world heritage site.

So leave your car outside this wonderful town and explore it!

Another small village that you will find following the route on the map is Montalcino. A very small town famous for its wine. Brunello di Montalcino is a famous red wine produced in vineyard close to this town. So… stop in this place and buy some very good italian wine. Sometimes during your trip you will find indication for wine and oil for sale. Follow that indication and you will have a nice wine and oil at a very cheap price.

I don’t want to describe so much about this small cities. I don’t want this post to be boring, but i prefer you to discover this place by yourself. Prepare your camera because the landscape that you will find along this route are amazing.

The last two small town on trip that you see on the map are San quirico d’orcia and Pienza. The first one is a very small town but if you can, make a stop to have some food. You will find something really exceptional!

Pienza is bigger but still not too much. Its landscape was included on the list of UNESCO World Cultural Landscapes.

What about food? This is the right place where to eat a nice “Fiorentina”. Its a T-bone from Chianina or Maremmana breeds of cattle. It is prepared over a charcoal fire. Try it accompanied by a nice Brunello di Montalcino and enjoy!
